About Us:

Eleven years ago a group of concerned and dedicated people decided something needed to be done for the young people on the western slope of El Dorado County. They wanted a safe place and the best programs available so they searched for the organization with the greatest track record serving children. That was the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Boys & Girls Clubs have been serving young people for 140 years and today, over 4,000 Clubs provide youth development programs for over 4 million kids. Communities having Boys & Girls Clubs have found that members have lower school drop out rates, lower juvenile crime rates, higher grades, less gang involvement and less drug, alcohol and tobacco use.

On June 2, 1999 the Western Slope Boys & Girls Club began daily programs for kids between the ages of 7 and 18 here in Placerville. We have developed an innovative partnership with the California National Guard, a first in this state. The Guard provides the Armory, located at the fairgrounds, for a Clubhouse. Summer programs operate from 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM. Our school year hours are 2:00-6:00PM. Also during the school year we have a satellite site in Pollock Pines on the Emigrant Trail Campus, thanks to a partnership with the Pollock Pines School District, and we have a satellite site in Cameron Park at the Camerado School. More satellite sites have always been part of the original vision.

Programs at all Boys & Girls Club are presented as part of something we like to call the Youth Development Strategy. We believe everything done at the Club should foster a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence, and competence. By offering these feelings to our young people through exciting and entertaining programs we help them to become the positive and successful adults each of them has the ability and capacity to become.

The Boys & Girls Club offer the youth of the Western Slope area what they have been missing for so long: a place of their own. They have programs which address a wide range of topics including education, the arts, outdoor and environmental studies, community service, leadership development and health education. They have caring adults who offer support and mentoring programs. They are in a safe and positive atmosphere. And they have fun.
