El Camino College Compton Center

1111 East Artesia Boulevard
310-900-1600

The Compton campus has been serving students and the educational needs of the Compton-area community since 1927.

The Compton Center is accredited, open and ready for fall registration – looking to continue the longstanding tradition of educating the Compton community – under a new agreement with El Camino College. El Camino College classes are now being offered at the Compton Center.

This agreement serves our communities with the goal of giving all students the education and skills needed to succeed in our global economy.

Compton is “The Place to Be!” You should be here too, a place where you can reach your educational and career goals and get the skills you need to succeed.

Background

On July 24, 2006, the El Camino Community College District Board of Trustees gave approval for El Camino College to proceed with negotiations for an agreement to provide educational and related support services to residents of the Compton Community College District beginning this fall.

The primary intent of the agreement between the El Camino Community College District and the Compton Community College District is to assist the Compton campus with recovery and full accreditation as a two-year public college within the next five to eight years.

Agreement Goals

El Camino College will provide accredited instructional and related support services, in addition to administrative services to meet the needs of Compton students. Compton Community College now operates as an educational center of El Camino College. El Camino College courses will be taught at the Compton Center by Compton faculty beginning with the fall 2006 semester.

By addressing all accreditation and legal requirements, El Camino College will operate with the goal of bringing the Compton Center into good standing with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), with the understanding that the eventual separation of campus functions after full accreditation or completion of contractual obligations is the primary objective.

El Camino College History

Established in 1947, El Camino College is located near Torrance and serves about 26,000 students from the South Bay and beyond. The district is one of the largest single-campus two-year institutions in the state, serving the communities of El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and Torrance – a population of over one million residents.

El Camino College is in good standing with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), and has successfully completed the accreditation cycle to secure accreditation until 2008.
