At Bower, we strive to create a warm, nurturing place for children to grow. Combining high academic expectations with an environment rich in the arts, our hope is to instill in each youngster a passion for learning, the courage to stand up for democratic ideals, and the tools to help transform aspirations into reality. Our school's goal is: To enrich and celebrate the unique talents of each student.

We offer a full day kindergarten program designed to help children enhance social growth while exploring literature, mathematics, and our community. In the primary grades, these types of opportunities continue, gaining depth with each year. In the upper grades, children explore a variety of literature , gain in-depth knowledge about many scientific topics, and math skills that are in-line with state standards and assessments. Our social studies curriculum centers on democracy, citizenship, and the history of the United States, New York State, and cultures around the world. Children in grades four and five also have an opportunity to become part of our student government, where they gain first-hand experience on democratic leadership.

At Bower, technology is integrated into classroom instruction via Windows based computers in all classrooms, mobile laptop labs, and a fixed technology lab. In addition to high-speed Internet access, students use a wide range of software to research topics and publish their work.

We offer an inclusionary model of schooling, where students with a wide range of learning styles are instructed within the classroom setting. Both enrichment and extra support programs are available district-wide and within the building. Orion, a unique gifted and talented program, begins in grade 3 district-wide, while extra support services are available to students starting in kindergarten. Academic intervention in mathematics (AIM) is a before-school extra help program accessible to youngsters in grades 1-5. An after-school homework club is open to upper grade students as well.

Our extracurricular activities include an active Student Government, Safety Patrol, Chamber Chorus, Art Club, and Intramural Sports. We encourage our fourth and fifth graders to become involved in the arts, welcoming them into our orchestra and band. Instructed during the school day, chorus is open to all children who wish to share their voice with others.

The Edward W. Bower School has been helping children for over 50 years. Working together, we look forward to enriching and celebrating the unique talents of each child for years to come.
