The Dendron Historical Society was formed in July of 1997 to collect, preserve and display articles, pictures, maps, artifacts and other items that relate to the history of the Town of Dendron; Surry Lumber Company and the Surry, Sussex and Southampton Railroad. The first and most immediate project of the Society is the restoration of a Boxcar that was used by the Surry Lumber Company on the Surry, Sussex and Southampton Railroad.
