Deer Park Rotary Club

The early concept of a Rotary Club in Deer Park was conceived by Mr. Harold Reel, Mr. E.R. Williams and Dr. Marlin Cherry. This was in the early part of 1966. Mr. Reel was a member of the Galena Part Rotary Club, Mr. Williams was a member of the La Porte Rotary Club and Dr. Cherry was a member of the old South Houston Rotary Club that met at the Restaurant In The Sky. All three member had been Rotarians at least 2 to 3 years.

These three men contacted the District governor, Red Clause, along with Pasadena President, Alden Bailey. The work began on the possibility of getting a club in Deer Park.

Each of these three members was given permission from their respective clubs to meet each Wednesday at noon at the old Hickory House. These early meetings began in March 1966. Adding new members was slow. The Pasadena Rotary Club was the club sponsor, since it had to relent that part of its membership in order for Deer Park Rotary to exist. The new club had to have at least 25 member to secure a charter as well as a constitution and bylaws. Official meetings of the club began the first week of July 1966. By July we had 25 charter members.

The Deer Park Rotary Club is a service organization that sponsors many community endeavors in the Deer Park area including scholarships, recreation, community-wide activities and the overall improvement of our city.
