Organizations within the county include the Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, the Women's Clubs through the extension office, The Elk's and Ladies of the Elk's, the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary, The Lion's Club, The D.A.V., The American Legion, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Decatur County Education Association, the D.A.R., the Daughters of the Confederacy, saddle clubs, hunting clubs, bass clubs and Ducks Unlimited.

There are over 50 churches that meet within the county. Represented in this group are Assemblies of God, Baptist, Catholic, Church of Christ, Pentecostal, Methodist, Presbyterian, Church of God in Christ and Seventh Day Adventist. A Jewish Synagogue is located in Jackson. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is in Perry County.

There are two libraries within the county. A new county library has been built in Decaturville which contains a community room. And a new library has been built at the new Municipal building in Parsons.

Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, FFA, and 4-H are active within the county.

The local newspapers are the Decatur County Chronicle with a circulation of 6,000 and The News Leader with a circulation of 4,400. WKJQ 97.3FM is the local radio station playing country music on FM and gospel on AM. Television comes from Nashville, Memphis and Jackson with cable service through Charter Communications Inc.
