DDCdances (AKA Detroit Dance Collective) is Michigan’s Leader of Contemporary Dance. The company was founded in 1980 by Sue Ellen Darr, Paula Kramer, Anita Surma and present artistic director and principal choreographer, Barbara Selinger. DDC is a professional contemporary dance company dedicated to the creation and production of visually striking repertory that touches the senses. DDC’s mission affirms that Dance is a powerful means of communication and that it profoundly affects our artistic, intellectual, emotional and physical lives. The company has toured extensively throughout Michigan and nationally performing numerous concerts in theaters, schools, museums, galleries and out-door spaces. DDC dancers are gifted performers, choreographers and versatile artists who are also friendly, knowledgeable teachers. Repertory and production values are of the highest quality, programming is accessible and affordable, and DDC concerts provide a showcase for professional and emerging artists. The company specializes in designing imaginative teaching/performing residencies in schools and communities and is recognized for producing superb concerts and lecture demonstrations for students and families.
