Cut Off Elementary School

On November 11, 1955, the Lafourche Parish School Board entered into an agreement with members of the Petit family of Cut Off for the sale of 11.31 acres of land at the price of $5000 per acre for the purpose of building a new elementary school to serve the Cut Off community.

Fernaud Picou was the architect for the project. Preparations of the site for construction began on January 16, 1956, and the school opened its doors to children at the beginning of the 1957-58 school year. R.O. Moncla was the superintendent, and Joseph Defelice was the principal.

Though at other times in its history the school also served sixth and seventh grades, it now serves pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students. Boundaries for Cut Off Elementary are from the site of the old Cut Off bridge at the north end and the Bully Camp road on the south end, encompassing both sides of Bayou Lafourche.
