Our School

Cranberry Middle School was formed from the consolidation of sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes from Elk Park, Minneapolis, and Beech Mountain schools. Cranberry Middle School first opened during the fall semester of 1996, at Minneapolis School then moved into the new building for the spring 1997 semester. The Cranberry facility is shared with Freedom Trail Elementary School -- a Pre-K-5 school. Each school is headed by its own principal. The two schools also share a guidance counselor, media specialist and media center, cafeteria staff and cafeteria, office, custodial, and transportation staff, along with seven school buses.

Cranberry Middle School is now ten years old and we have firmly established a foundation of fine academic and extra-curricular achievement. Cranberry Middle School has earned both an Exemplary and School of Distinction status from the state of North Carolina in the last ten years. In athletics, the school has won championships in the Toe River Conference. Our students have the opportunity to participate in sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, track, golf, soccer, softball, and cheerleading. Extra-curricular activities include Battle of the Books, Spelling Bee, FCA, band, chorus, Junior ROTC Club, and yearbook. The school is also home to the Toe River Learning Center which is an after-school program.
