Cornersville Church of Christ

309 North Main Street
931-293-6466

The Cornersville Church of Christ dates back to 1847. Prior to that time, the church met with the brethern at Robertson For k. In 1847 they decided to establish a congregation in Cornersville. On December 8, 1851 William H. Nance, bequeathed 5/8 an acre of land for the church. The first building was erected on this site and it remained until about 1889. The church stopped meeting at the building during the Civil War, therefore, the property went back to the original owner. It was purchased by the church on august 27, 1887 from Louis J. Nance for $100.00. In 1889, the original building was torn down and a new building was erected. The building has undergone several changes but the original auditorium still remains. The building was heated by two big coal stoves that stood in front of the building. The lighting was provided by kerosene lamps until the early 1920's, when electricity was added to the building. The building had the south wing added about 1945.The north wing was added in 1957. In January of 1976, the front foyer and restrooms were added. The window that had been over the big door in the center of the building was moved to the front of the building addition. It is believed is nearly one hundred years old.
