History

The seed of the Kingdom was first laid in Collinsville at the Perry City Park which was located between 11th and 12th streets on the south side of Broadway.  The preacher that laid foundation at this first meeting was Brother Fuquay.  The year was 1938 and the meeting lasted two weeks.  A short time later another meeting in the same park was held with Brother Charles Tenius.  the first building in which the church assembled was located on the North side of Main Street between 10th and 11th streets.  At this time, Brother S.C. Kenningham did most of the preaching.

The church met on Main for just a short time, until the meeting place was moved to 105 S. 11th street.  Brother Charles Tenius and Brother G.R. Tenius did most all of the preaching during this time.  After this, Brother Fate Cupps filled in until a full-time preacher was secured.

Evidence of additional faith and vision was shown when two lots were purchased by the church at the corner of 11th and Broadway.  Brother O.A. Tate then purchased the office building of the Old Vira Lumber Company at Vera, Oklahoma.  It was moved onto the two lots.  O.A. Tate and his oldest son, H.F. Tate repaired the building and it became the first building that the church actually owned.  there were two classrooms at the entrance of the building, one on each side. The auditorium made up the remainder of the building.  Brother J.G. Noblett became the first full-time preacher.

The amount of the loan for the first building was $550.00 and the note was signed by O.A. Tate, R.D. Howard, W.M. Thomas and G.R. Tenius.  It was dated September 6, 1944 and was paid off May 16, 1945.  Insurance was secured in the amount of $2,000.00 on December 10, 1946 to cover the properties.

In 1952 Classrooms were added to the building and in 1956 the building was further improved by the addition of a baptistery, the lot was also purchased at this time.

In 1958, a vestibule was added to the front of the building.  IN 1962, a house was moved onto the property, (thanks to sister Alice Dillon), later becoming the preachers' house.

In 1965 construction, on the present building, began on the auditorium and members assembled in it for the first time in November 1965.  New classrooms were added by December 1968.  Roy Kaemper purchased the old building, moved and remodel it for his home.  That space was then used for parking.  In a few years, a multi-purpose building was constructed.

In 1969 Mr. Frank Turpin gave 2 lots to the church for a preachers home.  They are located at 902 N. 15th Street.  In December of 1970 Sam Orr drew up the plans and construction began on a new preacher's home.

Through God's wonderful grace the church has done well, through the good times as well as the hard times.  The church experienced its' largest growth in the early and mid seventies.  in the 80's the church attendance fluctuated in the eighties and nineties.  the budget set for 1989 was $1,240.00.  the present church is a Christ centered, loving group with a vision toward growth!
