Founded over 25 years ago, Classical Ballet Theatre has shared its love of ballet and contemporary dance with thousands of students and patrons. CBT provides the highest caliber of dance training and coaching, affords classes to dancers of all ages and abilities, and prepares them for careers in the performing arts. CBT also offers its students exceptional performance opportunities, while providing professional quality productions to the community at affordable prices. Named by CBS DC as one of the "best places to see ballet in the DC area," CBT has presented beloved, classical ballets, such as The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Coppelia as well as original productions, such as Tom Sawyer and An Evening with Classical Ballet Theatre, which features original choreography by renowned artists including Michael Shannon, Juan Carlos Rincones, Iquail Shaheed Johnson, and Marjorie Mussman.
CBT also places a priority on community outreach. CBT's extensive and growing outreach includes free performing arts enrichment programs for local schools, organizations, and underserved populations, as well as tribute performances that raise public awareness for worthy causes and honor members of the community. The shorter Children's Series performances are highly popular with younger audiences, who enjoy seeing the beautiful costumes and choreography as well as the opportunity to ask questions and meet the dancers. CBT also provides complimentary tickets to underserved populations and performance discounts to scouts, military families, children, and seniors.
