City Of Manistee

70 Maple Street
231-723-2575

City Hall was built by the Federal Government as the Manistee Post Office. The City purchased the building and relocated City Hall in 1965. Little was done to the building for nearly 38 years when restoration began. After nearly two years of renovations the City was pleased to reestablish residency in August of 2005.

The former attic (third floor) was wasted space that now serves as the Council Chambers. The installation of state of art technology provides a tremendous service to the community by allowing citizens to view items that previously were only seen by City Council during the course of a meeting.

ADA requirements have been met by the installation of an elevator servicing all levels of the building. The former parking lot on the west side of the building was lowered to allow barrier free access to the building.

The lower level of the building houses the Police Department and provides public restrooms.

The first floor is home to the offices of the City Treasurer and City Clerk. This is where citizens go to pay their water bills, tax bills, register to vote and obtain absentee ballots for elections.

The second floor is where you would find the City Manager, City Assessor, Building/Rental Inspector, Community Development Department, and the Planning and Zoning Department.
