Jesus paid a price that we could not pay for ourselves, he gave his life that we might live.  God loved us (His creation) so much, that He gave His son.

Adam, when he disobeyed God and sinned in Genesis, passed a death sentence down to all mankind, but Jesus Christ, through His obedience took that verdict of death to His own self. Romans 5: 19 says For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
