· A Life-Giving Relationship With Our World

Our History

In 2003, the Elders of Daybreak Community Church began praying for a church in the San Elijo Hills region of San Marcos. In 2004, Raymond van Pletsen and Harold Alexander began a small group in the San Elijo community in order to determine the receptiveness of the community to a local church as well as begin establishing a core group of people who would then become the opening congregation. The small group met in Chip & Cathy Brinks home with approximately ten in attendance.

With Raymond's teaching from the inspired Word of God, the group continued to grow. On Easter Sunday of 2004, Daybreak hosted an Easter service, and with 120 in attendance it became evident that a church was needed in the community. In November of 2004, Church of The Hills was named and opened its doors as church unplugged in the San Elijo Community Center. The first service on November 14, 2004 was attended by 61 adults and 19 children. In January, 2005, the church changed venues to the San Elijo School Performing Arts Center. On February 13, Church of The Hills formally introduced itself to the community via a Grand Opening and hosting a barbecue and events for the children. Easter of 2005 brought over 520 people, and by March 7, 2005 Church of The Hills became a fully constituted church.

From the beginning, we have been aware this church is a creation of God. He assembled a team of people who brought the gifts we needed when we needed them, and He continues to do so to this day! He has filled us all with a fresh sense of His love and joy. Attendance continues to grow, and there are several connection groups located throughout the community. We are excited about God's plans for our future, and look forward to witnessing more miracles in the months and years to come
