Chesterfield School

The mission of the Chesterfield School is to provide an educational program that allows each individual child the best opportunity to develop intellectually and emotionally to their fullest potential, and to become healthy, happy, responsible and productive members of our society.

We believe that our school should be an attractive, friendly place, that possesses a rich variety of activities and materials, and stimulates each child to become actively involved in his/her own learning.

We strive to communicate well with parents and encourage them to become active partners in their child's education.

We believe that childhood should be respected for its developmental importance, and as a time of preparation for future growth and development. We see children as naturally curious, active, and resourceful, and we design programs consistent with those qualities.

We believe that children differ from one another in ability, learning styles, achievements, attitudes and interests.

We believe that a small, community school affords us the opportunity to know all children as individuals. We strive to take advantage of that opportunity by providing an appropriate, personalized education for each child. If a child is not learning the way we teach, we work hard to teach the way he or she learns.

During the elementary school years we believe each child should be given the opportunity to develop:

  • a love of learning
  • self-confidence, self-reliance, and self-discipline.
  • the ability to communicate by listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as, showing expressions and appreciation of the arts.
  • an ability to establish cooperative, compassionate, positive relationships with others:
  • meaningful personal and aesthetic values;
  • the ability and desire for self-directed learning;
  • an ability to think creatively and critically;
  • the ability to compute, reason and use mathematical concepts;
  • a functional understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, as well as, the physical and technological world;
  • and an appreciation and an awareness of the human body so as to promote positive physical, social and emotional relationships with others.
