Cherry Ridge Farms

4158 Vinegar Hill Road
937-444-3757

History:

In 1914, the Clemons  purchased their small 46 acre parcel resting on the western banks of White Oak Creek, Scott Township, Brown County, Ohio. Together they built the  small white cottage which sets on the hill overlooking the creek. It  is much like it was then. Modernized but not remodeled.

Uncle Bob was addressed as  a prolific farmer" in the Brown County History book. Known as the Watermelon  King,  because he raised hundreds of delicious  watermelons, on  the same  fertile bottom land  where we now grow corn and hay.

This parcel butted up to the farm that Jeff's parents Guy and Gerry Mitchell  would buy many years later, in 1968. The Mitchell Farm is where we eventually built our farm house in 1999. It was then, that we named our new homestead, Cherry Ridge.

The historic place where the two properties join together known as Kimball's Ford Crossing, was home to  many watermelon festivals we learned when talking to the older generation and as recorded in the Brown County History book. People drove from Cincinnati, and all over, at one time, by horse and buggy and later cars to the creekside to enjoy picnicking, fishing, hiking, nature, baptisms  and watermelon festivals. The crossing became quite the fun place.
