Mission:

The mission of the United Methodist Church is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” In concert with this, Central’s purpose is “making and nurturing disciples of Jesus Christ.” We have dedicated ourselves to expanding our outreach mission and inclusiveness over the next five years and beyond.

About Us:

Central United Methodist Church is a vital downtown church in the middle of Spartanburg, SC. It seeks to honor the deeper traditions of the Christian faith while moving forward into the new millennium.

Central hosts and sponsors innovative, forward-thinking ministries like SPIHN (Spartanburg Interfaith Hospitality Network—a shelter for homeless families), S.T.A.R. (Sacred Traditions And Rituals, an interactive worship experience), and “Journey to the Cross” (a walk through the stations of the cross held each Good Friday). These ministries are conducted alongside a traditional service at 11am Sundays, Sunday School, Bible Studies, handbell choirs, healing services, services on Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday, Lenten services, and both material and volunteer support of outreach ministries in the Spartanburg community. Central is known for its music, which includes pipe organ, piano, various instrumentalists, choir, and handbells. The church is also historically connected with Wofford College and works to minister to all the colleges in the Spartanburg area.
