About Us:

Central United Methodist Church of Honesdale, PA.

Member of the Susquehanna Annual Conference.

With our historic building, the Central Honesdale congregation inherits a distinct legacy. We are both proud and humbled to be the stewards of this legacy. We carry on the tradition of inspiring worship, quality Christian education, and life giving mission. It’s a tradition that was established when the Methodists gathered in Honesdale in the early 19th Century. We are a living congregation with a vision of the future. Our congregation is committed to “seek the welfare of our town. . . and pray for it;” (Jer. 33:3) for we believe that we will find our own welfare in our community, while we live here. With God, we hope to accomplish this by making our church a HOME for all.

Central UMC is a diverse congregation within Honesdale, PA– age, race, economic status, education, marital status; nationality and denominational background are all represented. Yet, we all seek to be the body of Christ together as part of the United Methodist Church and the whole people of God. Although some of us come from other parts of this country, we have chosen to live in Honesdale.

Worship is central to our faith and our community. We hold our worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. each Sunday, seeking to sing praise, lift our human condition, receive God’s word, and rededicate ourselves to be faithful disciples. Communion is typically served on the first Sunday of every month and on other special occasions. The 8:30 a.m. service is called our informal worship service and is a “dressed down” version of our more formal 11:00 a.m. service in the sanctuary. Each service is dynamic in its own way and seeks to incorporate both traditional and contemporary elements, as we encourage everyone to participate. Nurture and growth is also an important part of our faith community. We have established a vibrant Christian Education program where young and old may grow in their faith life. We also believe that growth in faith and the need for nurture and support is life-long, so there are study and social groups for adults as well and are held on Sunday mornings between the two services. Children and youth classes available from age 3 up to Senior High.
