Central Christian Church

1482 South Major Street, #B
801-363-5559

History:

Central Christian Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in Salt Lake City, Utah. Established in 1890, Central Christian has been a faithful witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in downtown Salt Lake City.

In the beginning, John M. Breeze came to Salt Lake and, finding no Christian church, placed a notice in a local newspaper asking that those interested meet in a local school building. Thirteen people responded. That August, an evangelistic meeting was held and a congregation of 42 members was organized.

A lot was purchased in 1892 and a building program soon followed. During the construction of the original church, worship services were held in a tent. Finally, in November of 1893, the construction was complete and our Lord Jesus Christ had a home in downtown Salt Lake City. Central Christian Church has remained and grown at this site ever since.

In July of 1956 the present sanctuary was dedicated to our Lord Jesus and the education unit was dedicated just a few short years later in 1964, much of which was built on the original foundation.

The entire building was completely rejuvenated due to a terrible fire in September of 1984, though not a single service was cancelled.

Central Christian Church has been a center for spiritual birth and growth for over 100 years, and the Lord willing will continue to do so till our Lord and Savior calls us home.
