History:

The rural nature of Isle of Wight County was changing. The 1980’s witnessed an increased flow of families seeking a calmer existence. By 1990 it was clear that the expanding population of the Smithfield area would require new educational facilities.
Thus, in 1993, Carrollton Elementary opened its doors for the first time. The new Kindergarten through Fifth Grade school was designed in the mode of many new community colleges with a central library hub and grade level wings radiating out. Modern and open in appearance, Carrollton has consistently exhibited excellence in its whole child educational efforts with a faculty and staff always teaching for success in a supportive environment.
