Bloom-Vernon Local Schools

10529 Main Street
740-778-2281

History:

When Bloom Township was formed in 1812 no public schools existed so parents and/or others taught the students of the area. In 1849 a local Board of Education was established and had oversight of the schools of Bloom Township. During this time a number of schools existed throughout the Township.

In the fall of 1968 Vernon Township became part of the Bloom Local School District and the school at Vernon became known as Vernon Elementary School. This building is now known as the Vernon Community Learning Center and houses a Family Literacy Center.

Currently, The Bloom-Vernon Local School District is rests on a thirty-five acre parcel of ground, located approximately eleven miles east on State Route 140, just inside the corporation limits of the village of South Webster, Ohio.

In 1985 a bond issue was approved to build the new South Webster High School. In the spring of 1988 students moved into the new facility. During this time the school district name was changed from Bloom Local School District to Bloom-Vernon Local School District.

In the fall of 1997, another bond issue was approved to build a new K-6 elementary (Bloom-Vernon Elementary) and to add grades 7-8 to the existing high school.

Today, Bloom-Vernon is a comprehensive Pre K-12 educational system serving just over a 1000 students with approximately 130 certified and non-certified employees. The two campus buildings, adjacent to each other, provide state of the art equipment and optimum opportunity to meet the needs of the student population.
