Black Hawk Run Golf Club was established in 1964 as a 9-hole course. The course expanded to 18 holes in 1995 thanks to the strong consistent support of the local following. In 2009, Black Hawk Run Merged with the Rabine Group of companies in an attempt to expand its business and become a leader in the Golf Course Industry. In a short period of time, Black Hawk Run has seen vast improvements, and continues to be the best value for golf in Jo Daviess County. Black Hawk Run was named after the prestigous Black Hawk of the Sauk Indians. Black Hawk (or Black Sparrow Hawk as he was orinally known) led a dissident band of sauk and fox indians into the rock river valley of northwest Illinois in the spring of 1832 in an attempt to reclaim tribal lands from American settlers. The move precipitated the tragic “Black Hawk War†and led to the decimation of the band by elements of the Illiinois Militia and U.S. Army. The Battle of Stillman Run (in present Stillman Valley), which occurred on May 14, 1832, was one of the main encounters. Black Hawk Run’s favorite Hockey team is also affiliated with our rich history. The Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League are indirectly named after Chief Black Hawk. The Blackhawks' first owner, Frederic McLaughlin, was a commander with the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division during World War I. This Division was nicknamed the "Black Hawk Division" after Chief Black Hawk. McLaughlin named the hockey team in honor of the military unit.
