BCJ is a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization offering weekly free legal clinics, sliding scale fees for direct legal services, and educational programs.

FLC works to connect local professionals with those Berkshire County residents who are experiencing very real barriers to accessing the civil legal counsel they need and deserve. We also address the larger social issues that lie at the root of these gaps in the service. The demand for our services grows monthly, primarily through word of mouth, and FLC responds to the community's needs by holding weekly free legal clinics, providing direct legal services, teaching clients how to self advocate where appropriate in the legal system offering community education programs, conducting interviews, and speaking publicly about the ways law and social issues interface.

By networking intimately throughout the community and listening closely to client needs, FLC is positioned to collaborate with existing health, educational, housing, domestic violence, and women's organizations to identify gaps in services and fill those needs without duplicating services. These collaborations allow those with expertise on various legal and social issues to work together, all in greater service to the community.

We have 24 attorneys, two accountants, and two mediators, who volunteer pro bono and reduced-fee professional services to FLC clients. We've served over 850 clients and their families, in a wide variety of legal and social issues. We've helped single mothers avoid eviction. We've helped entrepreneurs get the legal and zoning support they need to develop their new businesses. FLC clients are grateful to have someone to turn to with their legal issues. Our clients receive the legal counsel they deserve, even if they can't afford to pay for an attorney.

FLC serves county employers who call us on behalf of their employees who have legal issues and can't afford an attorney. Employers understand that they benefit when their employees' legal needs are cared for.
