Ball Ground United Methodist Church

3045 Canton Hwy
770-735-6247

Mission:
The mission is to be a beacon of hope and a source of joy for all the residents of Ball Ground and the surrounding region. We do this by doing whatever it takes to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ.

History:
The Methodist Church came to Ball Ground when some of the members at Shiloh Methodist Church on Yellow Creek Rd. moved to this area and by September of 1870, the church had 18 members. On July 9, 1874, MJ. Cavender deeded one acre of land to the church to erect a building. This building, located below and behind Ball Ground Elementary School, lasted until 1915 when a tornado swept through town doing extensive damage. A red brick building was constructed to replace the one destroyed and in 1916, it was dedicated to the Glory of God and the use of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Throughout the years, the building was used for many things besides services. There were nativity plays, school programs and revivals attended by many in the community.

The original cornerstone on the building’s southeast corner was removed when the building was sold to Faith Baptist Church in August of 2001. The Ball Ground United Methodist Church and several other surrounding churches shared a pastor at times during the past century. Waleska, Canton, Jasper, Tate, Holly Springs, and Nelson were some of the communities that developed a closeness with Ball Ground as they all shared ministers and missions. We are truly a connectional church and find value in working with all churches regardless of denomination.

Over the years, to meet the demands of a growing student body, the Cherokee County School system acquired land on 3 sides of the church. It became obvious that our church could not grow with these constraints. Accordingly, our church and district leadership developed a plan to sell our property and move our church location temporary space in Ball Ground, assign a new minister, increase our membership and ministries in the community and locate and acquire property suitable for our congregation and future growth.
