History :

The Austin Historical Society is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

First Chartered as the Austin Civic Society. Among those members were: Molly Flagg Knudtsen, Belle Roberts, and Bert Acre.

Reformed in October, 1991, as the Austin Historical Mining District Historical Society, Inc. It operates as the Austin Historical Society. This group placed the first building on the National Register of Historic Places.

In October of 2000, there was a revitalization and a new Board of Directors and new officers were elected. This Board opened the first museum in the old Gridlley's Store. Since that time 10 addition buildings and sites have been placed on the National Register of Historic Places and a new, larger museum location purchase.
