Amanda Moore Elementary School

209 Dickenson Street
586-752-0260

The Amanda Moore Elementary School is named in honor of Amanda Moore, a long-time resident and community leader of Romeo.

At an early age, Mr. Moss Moore adopted a 12-year-old girl named Amanda Moore. Soon after that Ms. Moore began her own foster care home. Throughout her lifetime, Amanda Moore cared for 169 children. She was a very strict, but loving mother. She taught her children the values of self-reliance, independence, honorable citizenship, and the importance of caring for the well being of others.

Amanda Moore was born on March 8, 1868 and died on March 26, 1964 at the age of 96. Miss Moore's picture is hung in the main hall as inspiration to all students, teachers and parents.

Her values and willingness to share her concern for others are as important today as they were when she was teaching them to her children.

We at Amanda Moore School are dedicated to continue teaching Miss Moore's values to our students.
