The Center was established in 1997. It welcomes all but is dedicated to the worship of Allah most glorious most high according to the jurisprudence established by Prophet Muhammad and His Household (Ahlelul Bayt) peace be upon them. Such worshippers are known as Shia Muslims also as the followers of the jurisprudence of Imam Jafar Sadiq (the 6th male successor descent of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon them) and also as Twelvers (as there are twelves male success descents of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon them. Twelver Shia is the largest branch of Shia Islam. In 2012 it was estimated that perhaps 85 percent of Shia muslims were Twelvers.

About 20 multi-ethnic group of head of households gathered at a studio apartment on State Street south of 3300 South on the east side of it rented by Iraqi community leaders. Head of households included Iraqis, Iranian, Pakistani, and Indian and raised $50,000. This amount enabled them to purchase the first official Alrasool Islamic Center registered as a place of worship at 470 E Stanley Avenue just a few blocks north east of the starting point. The community of worshipers grew exponentially over the years and as a result a new building was purchased a former LDS Assembly Hall located at 1247 W 4800 South in Taylorsville, Utah. At this time it is the premier Shia place of worship in the state of Utah.
