Albany Avenue Elementary School

The positive school climate that prevails at Albany Avenue School is one that addresses the needs of our culturally diverse student population throughout the year.

It fully involves our parents, our faculty and staff in a cooperative setting. Strong support of short- and long-term goals is provided by all, and our students are eager to learn in an environment where learning is fun. A high level of parental involvement, a supportive PTA, and a Building Compact Team that is committed to the principles of the Compact, all play a significant role in the successes realized by each student.

Increased student performance continues to be the goal at Albany Avenue. Our student population is actively involved throughout the entire school year

in activities that directly impact critical skills development, including Parents as Reading Partners, Reading is Fundamental, Book Buddies, and Pen pals among others.

Overall development is enhanced and student awareness to care for others is reinforced through participation in activities such as Jump Rope for Heart, Make-a-Wish and our Math-a-Thon. Extra and co-curricular activities ensure our students are involved in cultural and fine arts programs. Our PTA sponsored Pre-K program prepares our incoming students for the enriching and rewarding learning experience that awaits them.

The efforts of our students and faculty have earned Albany Avenue School recognition as being an "Honor School" by the Suffolk Reading Council; and the most efficient in conducting fire drills in a multiple level school building by the Lindenhurst Fire Department. During the 2000-01 school year, one of our teachers was honored by Hofstra University/News 12 Long Island as Educator of the Month, and NYS Lottery/Channel 55 as the Educator of the Week.

Albany Avenue is the home of great kids, as we are united to achieve excellence.
