Afya is a non-profit organization founded by Danielle Butin, whose background includes a career in Occupational Therapy and a Masters in Public Health. Afya recovers medical equipment and supplies otherwise destined for landfills or incineration, from US hospitals, nursing homes, corporations and individuals. In its three years of existence, Afya has sent medical equipment valued at more than $6.5 million to well-established health organizations in countries such as Haiti, where they are desperately needed. Afya partners with organizations that can guarantee that the products are distributed as intended, and do not become targets of looting.
