The African American Coalition of Reading, "ACOR" is a non-profit organization founded in the year 2000.  ACOR mission is to educate through the arts.  We support, encourage and showcase local artists of all mediums venues to display their works and talents.  Our home base is located in the Callowhill Art & Cultural Center, located at 139 N. 5th Street, where we work hand in hand in many projects.  Our main event has been our Black History Month Celebration and the celebration of Kwanzaa (Dec. 26-Jan. 1).  This year we will add another event to celebrate Juneteenth (Freedom Day).  Juneteenth is the day that slavery ended in all the US in 1865, two years after the Emanciapation Proclamation.  Both the Black History Month Celebration and the Juneteenth Celebration are made possible through the local talent we find in Berks County and surrounding area.  All our events are free to the public, because it is our gift to the community and we want all to be able to join in on the days events being able to bring their families and children.  These events are days that is about unity, sharing and love.  It is not just entertaining but informative as well
