1st Maryland Reenactment Group

323 Bentley Park Lane

The First Maryland is a Civil War living history and reenactment group focusing on Maryland during the war.  We participate in parades, living histories and reenactments throughout Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. We may travel farther to support other units.

Our mission is to educate the public about the Civil War in Maryland, and have a good time doing it. This includes non Civil War Related events, like our annual holiday party..

We are a close-knit, family oriented unit, and welcome children. Currently, there are several High School students who are members, and a middle schooler as well.  In addition, we can offer community service hours to middle and high school students. Our younger members also perform better in Social Studies, because they get first hand experience. They also learn the valuable skills of self-entertainment without batteries, team work, and talking to people.

If you love the great outdoors and history, this is the perfect hobby! Most events we go camping, and spend hours upon hours in the open.  We cook like they did, which is to say we barbecue everything. no messy propane for us, but a good old fashioned wood burning hole in the ground. And while this may not seem to be so appetizing, the food is better than what you get from a "real" grill.

We work hard during the week, and the First plays hard on the weekends.  Join us for a truly fascinating step into history!  Who says you can't go back?
