More Musings from Main Go Online

I was inspired by some new images of wildlife sent to me by South Windsor resident Joe Wojnilo, to upload another group of selected Musing to our website. This second group focuses on nature. We are dividing them up loosely according to subject matter.  So far, we have Musings that are history oriented, and now nature oriented available online. If you missed a Musing and want to read it, want to re-read one for research and explore its primary sources, or just look back at some of the images again, they are at your fingertips. Enjoy!

Thank you and keep the replies coming in.

Whose Tracks are Those?

South Windsor Wildlife II

Felines retract their claws until needed but canine claws are always out. If there is not a claw track associated with the print, it is feline, and you are looking at a bobcat track.  Access the complete Musings From Main featuring South Windsor wildlife and track identification online.

Our Buddies: Bats

Did you know that bats are great pollinators?  In fact, they are the reason we have bananas, avocados and mangoes.  This Musing is the first of a special two-part series exploring bats, and a few of the great things they do, (even though they tend to get a bad rap).

Gobble, Gobble!

Turkey Trivia

The wild turkey pictured above, was found by two of our long-time, dedicated volunteers, Mary Wilde and Jane Misiek, shortly after meeting his demise on Sullivan Avenue.  After being scooped up and taken to the taxidermist, a turkey naming contested was held and the unoriginal name of Tom was chosen for him.  Increase your knowledge of turkey trivia with this Musings From Main and you will have plenty of interesting, conversational tidbits to use during your Thanksgiving holiday gatherings.

Thank you

to everyone for being so supportive of the Musings from Main e-mails.  We are so glad that people find them interesting, educational, and entertaining. It has been wonderful to get all of the feedback about which Musings were your favorites, some suggestions for topics, along with additional information and memories.
