Lots of News in this Edition!

We have an abundance of news to share in this edition, some good, some not so good, and some GREAT!  We will rip the band-aid off, and start with the not so good...

Not so Good News...

-Chat and Chew Book Club will not be held this Thursday, June 9th...

-The evening performance of Diana of LOVE has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances...

-The Wood Memorial Library building will be closed to the public from July 1st through August 31st...

Good News...

-Chat and Chew is rescheduled to Monday, June 20th at 6:30pm.

-A few spots are open for the afternoon performance of Diana of LOVE. 

-The Friends will still offer programs in Nowashe Village and off site with South Windsor Tour: Hidden in Plain Sight and Town Wide Tag Sale.

Great News!!!

Nowashe Village will be featured on the CPTV program, Where Art Thou? with host Ray Hardman.  Nowashe, along with Indigenous Artisans, Miciah and Taylor Stasis (Herring Pond Wampanoag) will appear on Season 2, Episode 3, slated to air July 10th at 8pm.

Prices are $2 a book or fill a reusable Wood logo bag for $10. Hours vary each day of the sale so check the website for the specific day you will be shopping for open hours. Happy Reading!

Join with us to celebrate this international icon during pride month as History At Play™, LLC recalls her enduring impact on the LGBTQIA+ Community and beyond.

CT Open House Day in Nowashe Village

June 11, 2022 at 11am - 4pm

In celebration of CT Open House Day we will be offering a variety of family fun activities. Admission is FREE, but donations are welcomed. All proceeds go to support
Nowashe Village.

-3rd annual Artifact ID Day with special guest CT State Archaeologist, Dr. Sarah Sportman from 11am -1pm. Visitors can bring up to three item.

-Miciah Stasis (Herring Pond Wampanoag) will discuss the history and significance of wampum as well as explore wampum jewelry making.

-Taylor Stasis (Herring Pond Wampanoag)  will demonstrate and explain various weaving techniques.

-Primitive Technologist, Jim Dina will demonstrate live canoe burning and feature his own completed dugout canoe.

“Pathways and Blooms” Garden Tour & Plant Sale

June 12, 2022 at 9:30am-4:00pm

$20/$25 day of tour
Celebrate South Windsor by touring 7 unique gardens and Dzen Tree Farm. Two gardens are located on historic Main Street, along with Nowashe Village, where you can see a variety of Native plants and trees. Be sure to check out the plant and craft sale, where you can pick from a wide variety of locally grown plants and start working on your dream garden right away. Co-Sponsored with the Down to Earth Garden Club. This fundraising event only happens every other year so don’t miss out

Annual Golf Tournament

June 16, 2022     10:00am Shotgun Start

One of the best values in the golf! Held at Top Stone Golf Club, tournament play includes lunch, on-course drinks, raffle and a hearty après golf reception.

Sol Solis Consort Spring Concert

June 18, 2022 at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm

Pre-registration is highly recommended.
In lieu of per person registration fees, a donation can be made to secure your seat(s).

Join As a teaching orchestra, Sol Solis Consort promotes a non-competitive and cooperative philosophy, welcoming the skills and talents of all members with equal warmth. The performance run-time will be about 30 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A period and an educational look at each string section. Perfect for all ages!.

Author Event: Sarah Prager-Kind Like Masha: Learning from LGBTQ+ Leaders

Celebrate Pride Month and join author Sarah Prager as she speaks about LGBTQ+ people throughout history. Sarah has received critical praise for her writing, including five award nominations for her books. Her next book, Kind Like Masha: Learning from LGBTQ+ Leaders, is set to be released August 2, 2022. Co-sponsored with Book Club on the Go.

Sarah’s writing has been published by The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Geographic, NBC News, HuffPost, The Advocate, Cosmopolitan, and other national outlets.
