Welcome the newest member of our team, Ron!

We are happy to announce the addition of Ronald. D. Narcisse to our Nowashe Village educational team as a seasonal museum educator. Hailing from Windsor, CT, Ron has Nehantic Narragansett heritage and enjoys hunting, fishing and anything to do with Indigenous studies and history.

This season, Ron has been helping with operational logistics during our open days at Nowashe Village and we welcome his advancement within our education department.  Come experience his talents as a storyteller during our Free Family Fun Day,  August 13, 2022, from 11am to 4pm.

THANK YOU to  Connecticut Public television for choosing Nowashe as a destination on the docuseries “Where Art Thou! with Host Ray Hardman.

The episode features sisters Taylor and Miciah Stasis of Red rock designs teach viewers about Indigenous culture in New England through weaving and porcupine quill embroidery.

Free Family Fun Day: Plants and Animals
August  13, 2022  from 11 am to 4pm

Exploring the plants and animals of Nowashe Village make for a great day of FREE fun for the whole family! Embark on a Village-wide scavenger hunt to identify a variety of plants, trees and animal tracks in Nowashe. Enjoy a story from the Animal or Plant Nation from our featured Storyteller, Ron Narcisse.  South Windsor’s Senior Environmental Planner Jeff Folger, and Bill Marshall, of the South Windsor Invasive Plants Working Group, will also be on hand in Nowashe to discuss local invasive species and how to eradicate them.

South Windsor Tour: “Hidden in Plain Sight"

11:30am – 1:30pm or 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Fee $20

Join with us for a “Hidden in Plain Sight” bus tour of beautiful and historic South Windsor! Tour starts and ends at the historic Mill on the River with several site stops such as the historic Abner Reed House on Main Street for further exploration.  Pre-registration is strongly suggested to guarantee a seat.

Stephen King & Fairy Tales Trivia

Celebrate the release day of Stephen King’s Fairy Tale with an evening of Stephen King & Fairy Tales Trivia.  King Book Club Leader, Jessica Bottomley, will lead the trivia contest complete with prizes and light refreshments too. Exploring the Taino: Origins, Culture with Dr. Wilfredo Nieves

The first people of Borikén, what the indigenous people called Puerto Rico, will be discussed.  Who they were, how they arrived, the way they lived and their culture and beliefs will be highlighted.  The time period from their arrival to Borikén until their first encounter with Europeans will be covered.

Banned Books Week Book Club
