Opening Note
Happy New Year! 2023 has a lot in store for Weston. There is progress and change afoot and with large infrastructure projects on the horizon -  roads, bridges, water, and sidewalks. We are striving to be better connected than ever before. I will keep sending weekly updates letting you all know every step forward and pivots along the way. Thank you for reading THH and being a part of such a wonderful community.  

ARPA Update: Electric Vehicle Charging Stations ready for Charging
As part of the funding the Town received from the federal American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA), the town allocated money for one new electric vehicle charging station located at the Town Hall that can charge two vehicles simultaneously. The chargers and associated electrical wires have been installed in the ground and hooked up to the Town’s electrical system. Software registration has been finalized, so charge away!

Office of Tree Warden, Town of Weston
The Tree Warden will be holding a Public Hearing on January 11, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. via Zoom regarding the December 13, 2022 Posting of Tree Removals on the Town of Weston Moore Property, Lords Highway East (Assessor Map 17 Block 1 Lot 17). Under the provisions of Conn. State General Statute Sec. 23-59. Powers and duties of tree wardens, the tree warden is required to conduct a public hearing if the tree warden receives any objections in writing within ten days of the posting. Such written objections were received between December 14, 2022 and December 23, 2022. Therefore, a virtual public hearing will take place using Zoom at 4 p.m. local time January 11, 2023.  Pursuant to Public Act 22-3, the tree warden will hold a public hearing on January 11, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. via Zoom. This notice and relevant documents are posted on the Town website here: https://www.westonct.gov/government/municipal-departments/tree-warden and are also available in the Land Use Department, Town Hall Annex, 24 School Road, M-Th,9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Pursuant to Sections 163-167 of Senate Bill 1202, the meeting will take place by internet/phone. Eversource Upgrade Project
Eversource is pursuing a project that seeks to rebuild the 9.4-mile-long section of the 1714/1720/1222 Lines between “Old Town Substation” in Bridgeport and “Weston Substation.” The purpose of the proposed Project is to improve system reliability by reducing the risk of age related failures of deteriorating lattice tower structures, replace conductor, and shield wire. On December 15, representatives from Eversource made a presentation to the Board of Selectmen on the proposed project. What’s Next in Weston?
The most recent podcasts from the Y’s Men of Westport/Weston features two episodes interviewing Police Chief Henion. The podcast alternates between Westport First Selectwoman Jen Tooker (called Westport What’s Happening) and Weston First Selectwoman Sam Nestor as part of a public service program that offers perspectives from each town every Monday. “What’s Next in Weston” features First Selectwoman Sam Nestor and special guests. Every 2 weeks, we will discuss projects, programs and activities in our town in a brief five minute interview. Weston Featured on HBO Max/Magnolia

Recently the Philpott family reached out to me to to share the exciting news that their family has a show that features their recent home renovation project. It is currently streaming on HBO Max / Discovery+ / Magnolia Channel. The show is called 'In with the Old', Season 3, Episode 1. I watched it and wanted to share this fun show with you that features our beautiful town, lovely family and the wonderful community we live in. Thank you so much Megan and Brian for your passion for our town and sharing with everyone your little slice of heaven.

The LWV of Weston's Speak Up 2023
Saturday, February 4, 2023, 10:30 a.m. - noon
The annual Speak Up event will again be bringing together elected town officials, chairs of appointed boards, committees and commissions, and other key town and school officials to answer questions from the public about community and government issues. Speak Up has been an annual event since 1991. The event will be presented live at the Library Community Room as well as virtually via Zoom. Parks & Recreation
Parks and Recreation's Winter Session 2 registration will begin on Monday, 1/9 at 12:01 A.M. on the registration portal:  WebTrac Splash  and at 9 A.M. at the Parks and Recreation office, 47 Norfield Road. All after school programs will begin after session 1 ends and session 2 will wrap up before April break. Swim lessons begin this weekend at the Middle School pool, limited space still available. Please see our website for more information about swim lessons and open swim pool times. A swim pass must be purchased to attend open swim. The following appointed boards have positions available: Assessment Appeals, Beautification, Historic District Commission, and the Veterans Affairs Committee. Elected position openings are 2 open alternate seats on the Zoning Board of Appeals

Makeup Artist and Demonstration

His one and a half hour forum is the perfect place for mature women of all ages and experience to learn how to create a makeup style that compliments their personal features and skin tone. We will explore products, tools and “must haves” for your personal makeup collection. “Hands-on” makeup demonstrations too! Joby Rogers is a certified, professional makeup artist with 30 years experience, working as a professional and freelance makeup artists. The Bronze Age Collapse and the Birth of Ancient Greece

-February 9, The Bronze Age Collapse and the Birth of Ancient Greece: Ancient Greece has its origins in an arguably greater civilization: The Bronze Age. This class will give a brief overview of the Bronze Age, its sudden and mysterious collapse, and how the Greek world rose from its ashes to develop a new culture that would come to dominate the minds of the western world.
-February 16, Sparta and Athens: The Rise of the Two Greatest Greek City States: Undoubtedly the two most famous Greek City States, Athens and Sparta were considered unique even among city states. This class will cover the rise of both city states. We will learn how Sparta was literally rebuilt from complete destruction during the Bronze Age Collapse, and became the greatest warriors the world has known to this day. We will also learn how Athens rose from one of the only city-states to survive the Bronze-Age collapse to become the center of Greek thought, culture, and the forefather of modern democracy.
