An Announcement From the Weston Public Library Board of Trustees

Library director Karen Tatarka has resigned to accept a position as the Director of the UConn Hartford Campus Library.

“Karen has made a tremendous contribution to Weston, and she will be sorely missed. But the opportunity to move on to UConn is simply too good to pass up. We are grateful for her service and leadership. She leaves the Library stronger than ever, and we wish her continued success in her professional career,” said Anne Hunt, Chairman, Board of Trustees.

Since 2011, Ms. Tatarka has dedicated herself tirelessly to the Weston Public Library and the community with professionalism, insight and vision. With a dedicated and talented staff, over the last 10 years the Library has seen a 91% increase in program attendance, a 37% increase in circulation, and a 21% increase in building use, which has resulted in the Library serving as the true hub of the community. Since March, 2020, Karen has maintained critical library services. She led the staff in prioritizing the health and safety of staff and patrons all while maintaining the highest level of programming, offering continual access to the collection, and meeting patron needs at an extremely high level.

Her last day will be July 8, 2022. The Board of Trustees has formed a search committee to hire a new director. Please join us in wishing her all the best!
