2022 Making It in Massachusetts Award Goes to CMT Materials

When State Representative Jim Hawkins asked our president Jack Lank to recommend a business for the state's Making It in Massachusetts award, Jack suggested URCC member CMT Materials. Jim submitted their name to the Massachusetts Legislative Manufacturing Caucus and they were awarded the title.

Located in the Attleboro industrial park on Frank Mossberg Drive, CMT Materials makes a wide array of plastic materials, from the kind used to package fruits and vegetables in grocery stores to super high-tech materials that can maintain buoyancy and withstand enormous pressure in deep sea submarines. The mini-submarine Alvin used by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod was constructed with CMT's plastics. In fact, Alvin was recently upgraded to withstand pressure from 4,500 to 6,500 meters under water.

CMT manufactures plastics that are buoyant and strong enough to withstand pressure up to 11,000 meters, which is basically the bottom of the ocean. The company also manufactures battery packs for electric vehicles, which are fire-proof so that if a pack bursts into flames the fire is less likely to spread.

CMT is hiring -- they have openings for mechanical engineers and fabricators.
