Ulrich unveils new Dr. Sam and Jacque Kouri Collection Study Center to public on Saturday

WICHITA, Kan.--Think of it as a library for masterpiece works of art.

The new Dr. Sam and Jacque Kouri Collection Study Center at the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University enables you to request nearly any work in the museum's permanent collection of more than 6,700 pieces be displayed for your personal observation. This includes works by giants of modern and contemporary art like photographer Gordon Parks, painter Joan Mitchell, and sculptor Louise Nevelson, among others.  

You can get a tour of this exciting new space at its public opening from 1-3 p.m. this Saturday, June 4th. Staff members will demonstrate how artworks can be reserved--and how viewing pieces in this intimate setting enhances the learning experience.

Ulrich Interim Director Rodney Miller said the Center, which has been more than two years in the making, puts the museum's mission of education at the forefront.

"This beautiful space allows students and the public to really interact with the art in ways they can't in a traditional gallery," Miller said. "We are grateful to the Kouri family and all of the generous supporters who helped make this vision a reality."

The Center isn't the only thing new at the Ulrich. The lobby also was given a makeover, with lots of colorful furniture added to create a lounge where students can now hang out and study or meet with friends.

"We hope that both the Collection Study Center and the new student lounge make the Ulrich an even more welcoming space for all," Miller said. 

The Dr. Sam and Jacque Kouri Collection Study Center is open to the public Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with exception to class meetings.
