TOMORROW
Wednesday, May 17
10 a.m. Refreshments | 10:30 a.m. Program
Polk/Wilson Gallery

As part of Wichita's city-wide event line-up for The Big Read, Wichita artist Micala Gingrich Gaylord engaged with local elders, gathering personal items connected with their memories of love and activating them in the Grafly Gallery using audio recordings, creating a moving chorus of individual stories.

This exhibit, Love Is Memory, on display at the Ulrich through May 20, is the subject of Micala's Senior Wednesday Artist Talk on May 17. Join us at 10 a.m. for refreshments. Starting at 10:30 a.m., Micala will share her inspirations and process in regards to Love Is Memory and answer your questions about the project. This event is free and everyone is invited.

Micala Gingrich Gaylord is a local artist, 40 under 40 recipient, and CEO of ComfortCare Homes. She has worked over the years with youth in care, incarcerated people, and elders in dementia settings. She works primarily in a community-based practice incorporating art and community voices to evoke conversation and curiosity with mixed media work. Micala is passionate about advocacy in aging, and how an artist can have a unique and unorthodox approach to elder care.

Have you shared your Ulrich memories with us yet?

Our 50th anniversary is right around the corner (in 2024) and we're planning lots of great exhibitions and events to celebrate the Museum's excellence. One thing we are working on is collecting memories from folks who have been connected to the Ulrich over the years. Whether you are a present or past employee, a donor, volunteer, student, or general visitor, we'd love to hear your favorite memories of the Ulrich. We've created this webpage, which has a form on it, to help you share your stories. The memories we collect will be shared throughout our 50th anniversary celebrations and might even end up in a book we're putting together. We'd love to hear your stories.
