This month's Senior Wednesday features a presentation by Mina Estrada, program director of WSU’s dance department, as she guides you through an experience in the galleries that incorporates movement and select works of art. Learn a movement phrase that embodies an element of each artwork—texture, line, space, or narrative—and leave with a small dance that represents the kinesthetic and aesthetic experience the group has shared. This event is free and everyone is welcome.

Join us for a fiction reading by author Bee Sacks, Thursday, March 21 in the Dr. Sam & Jacqui Kouri Collection Study Center.

Bee holds an MFA from the Programs in Writing at the University of California, Irvine. Their debut novel, City of a Thousand Gates, published under the name Rebecca Sacks, was awarded the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for fiction. Their second novel, The Lover, was published in 2023. A former journalist, Bee worked at Vanity Fair for several years before moving to Israel-Palestine to study sacred Jewish texts. They live in Los Angeles with their dog, Pupik.

Writing Now Reading Now is cosponsored by the WSU Department of English, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Watermark Books & Café, and the Ulrich Museum of Art. This event is free and everyone is welcome.

LOCAL ARTISTS INVITED TO SHOW (FOR FREE) AT URBAN CANVAS ART MARKET

All Wichita-area artists are invited to register for our inaugural Urban Canvas Art Market during Open Streets WSU on Sunday, April 14 from Noon to 4 p.m. The market will take place in the circle drive in front of the Ulrich.

There will be no fees or commission charged for participation, however priority placement will be given to the artists who are represented in the exhibition, Urban Canvas | Exploring Muralism in Wichita, currently on view in the Beren Gallery. 

Those who wish to participate need to fill out this form and submit it by 11:59 p.m., Monday, March 25.

WEAPONS OF CHOICE
PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION:
THE ARTIST, ARCHITECT AND ACTIVIST

This collaborative exhibition will showcase the diverse talents of renowned photographer, artist, and activist Gordon Parks; architect Charles McAfee; and the emerging voices of the youth of the Wichita community.

Each artwork in this collection offers a unique exploration of artistic expression, delving into the realms of photography, applied art, and architectural interpretations. Additionally, student works from Wichita middle school and high school students depict societal injustices as seen through the eyes of the youth, inspired by Gordon Parks. Five of the two dozen student works were chosen to receive cash awards and additional honors, which were presented at a reception on March 2. The exhibition runs through March 29.
 
This collaborative display is presented by Gordon Parks Academy, Ulrich Museum of Art, Shift Space, WSU Cadman Gallery, and the Wichita Chapter of Links, Inc.

ULRICH CONNECTIONS

Ulrich staff were caught in the wild on March 14, installing three artworks representing multifaceted visualizations and experiences of indigenous peoples at the Wichita Public Library | Advanced Learning Library in collaboration with National Endowment for the Arts' Big Read. This Ulrich Connections pop-up is inspired by this year's book, There There by Thomas Orange, a novel that addresses the complex history and challenges faced by Indigenous Americans. See these works on view at the library through April 27.
