UAlbany Performing Arts Center : Music Program Ends Season with Six Ensemblesin Four Concerts

(Albany, NY): The Music Program of the University at Albany’s Department of Music and Theatre is pleased to finish its 2022-23 season with four concerts featuring six of its large ensembles.  All of the concerts will take at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown University at Albany campus at 1400 Washington Avenue.

Featuring the UAlbany Chamber Singers and UAlbany Community Chorale, The Choral Hour will be presented on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2pm. In celebration of Earth Day, the program will feature music that focuses on the power and beauty of nature, our relationship to our planet and its place in the greater universe.  The UAlbany Chamber Singers is a select group of 28 students who offer music of the highest quality.  The UAlbany Community Chorale consists of 45 outstanding singers from across the campus community and represents majors from all schools and programs.  Both groups are led by Michael Pfitzer.

On Monday, April 24, 2023 at 8pm, the UAlbany Jazz Band will perform a program of works by Charles Mingus, Gil Evans, Paquito D’Rivera and more. Directed by Keith Pray, the ensemble is open to all students regardless of major.

The UAlbany Symphony Orchestra will present a program on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 3pm featuring two works: Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major and Faure’s Pavane, Op. 50.  With conductor Christopher David Neubert, this large ensemble regularly performs works representing outstanding repertoire from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The culminating performance of the season will be Sound of the Trumpets, Roar of the Drums, a shared concert by the UAlbany Concert Band and the UAlbany Percussion Ensemble, on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 7pm. Under the direction of Richard Albagli, the percussionists will perform three works with high school student William Lauricella as special guest.  Conductor Kevin Champagne will lead the band in five works including Star Wars Saga by John Williams.

Advance tickets to each concert are $5 for the general public and $3 for students, seniors and UAlbany faculty-staff.  Tickets purchased on the day of the shows are $10 for the general public and $8 for students, seniors and UAlbany faculty-staff.
