Town of Plymouth - Water Street Sewer Interceptor Replacement Project Update

Government and Politics

March 9, 2023

From: Town of Plymouth

Plymouth’s Department of Public Works (“DPW”) seeks to notify residents and visitors of an update regarding the sewer system replacement project on Water Street.

On March 8, 2023, the project contractor and engineering consultants monitored the area and found no additional movement from the initial settlement identified on March 7, 2023. Additional monitoring and sampling in the impacted area will continue during the day on March 9, 2023. The Town will update members of the public with any additional information as soon as it is available.

Town officials were notified of settlement, in the vicinity of the project, on the morning of March 7, 2023. Based on that information, Town officials, the project contractor, and engineering consultants are investigating potential impacts in the area and have addressed areas of immediate concern.

A temporary detour pattern is still in effect as of Wednesday, March 8, 2023. Water Street from the Rotary to Brewster Street is temporarily closed. Currently, Chilton Street has local access only.

During construction, please expect to be inconvenienced by traffic delays, detours, uneven/settling trenches, parking restrictions, and elevated noise levels. Please follow the detour signs that are installed along the project area. Traffic detours will be modified as construction progresses towards the State Pier.

The Town and the Contractor will make every effort possible to minimize disturbances to residents, businesses, pedestrians, and motorists in the Water Street area throughout the duration of this project.

The Town appreciates the community’s patience and support during this important sewer system improvement project. Questions regarding this update may be directed to the Town Manager’s Office during normal business hours.
