Are you paying too much for your electricity?

Summer air conditioning season is here, and with it, rising electricity use and costs. You may be paying too much if you’re not enrolled in Plymouth’s Community Choice Power Supply Program.

Not sure who your supplier is? Check your Eversource bill. If it shows Dynergy as the supplier, you are already enrolled and paying the lowest rate. If Dynegy is not your supplier, you have opted to stay with Eversource’s basic rate or switched to another 3rd party supplier – and you’re paying more than you need to.

The Energy Switch website, https://energyswitchma.gov lists all available suppliers for Plymouth residents and businesses. It shows clearly that Plymouth’sCommunity Choice Power Supply Program, listed with the Town seal, offers the lowest rates.

Eversource’s Basic Residential Supply Rate rose to 17.871 cents/kWh on July 1, a more than 13% increase from the January 1st rate that had already risen nearly 50% over the previous six-month rate. Meanwhile, Plymouth’s rate has stayed stable at 9.807 cents/kWh and will remain so until October 2023.

With Plymouth’s Community Supply Power Program, you have the option to receive your electricity supply from 100% renewable energy sources for just pennies more a month. As the Energy Switch site shows, the average monthly cost difference is just 54 cents.

Some of the alternative electricity suppliers charge cancellation fees, so if you want to switch back to Plymouth’s program, be sure to check your terms first.
