Todd Snider, Lilly Winwood Perform at Infinity

Todd Snider, with Lilly Winwood, will appear at Infinity Hall Friday, September 9, at 8:00 p.m. Troubadour is the word that musician-raconteur Todd Snider uses on to describe himself and his latest release, "Live: Return of the Storyteller." Before he even made his professional debut with "Songs For The Daily Planet" in 1994, Snider already knew that he wanted to be part of this time-honored tradition. At the same time, Lilly Winwood, daughter of Grammy winning British rocker Steve Winwood, was growing up splitting time between the U.K. and Nashville’s neon-lit streets. She mixes salt-of-the-earth songwriting with a splash of old-world sophistication in her 2021 album debut, "Time Well Spent." For more information and tickets, click here.

Haystack Challenge Races Saturday

The Haystack Challenge, a half marathon, will be held Saturday, starting at  9:30 a.m. from the Barbour Woods trailhead off Lovers Lane. With 2,000-plus feet of elevation gain this grueling course is built around the 10k route with the addition of some lesser-known trails adjacent to Barbour Woods and Haystack Mountain; including special access to private paths only allowed during the event. A 10K race begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by a 5K race at 11:00 a.m. Bibs may be picked up up until 15 minutes before the races begin. For more information, click here.

Last Session for Hub Eco-friendly Giveaways

The Norfolk Hub has been hosting a series of  Saturday sessions highlighting eco-friendly household items packaged without plastics. On September 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., stop by the Hub for a surprise giveaway and to be entered into a raffle. This is the last session. Sponsored by the National Iron Bank.

Food Series Continues at Norfolk Hub

The Norfolk Foundation Food Focus series continues Wednesday, September 14, at 6:00 p.m. at the Norfolk Hub, 2 Station Place, with "Spilling the Beans (and Grains & Greens)" with Linda Garretson. She will present a 30-minute slide show while dispelling food myths, offering solutions for chronic health problems and encouraging common sense in making food choices. Soup and salad follows the presentation. Registration is required for this in-person event.

Sexual Violence is Topic of Hub Talk

Jeanne Fusco and Jennie Panchy of the Susan B. Anthony Project in Torrington will present a program on the impact of sexual violence and safety planning at Norfolk Hub Thursday, September 15, from  6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Susan B. Anthony Project provides direct services to survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence through the STRIVE (Seeking to Realize Independence, Values, and Esteem) program. Click here to register.

Farmers Market Continues until October 4

And Coming Up Next ...
You won't have to be a tree-hugger to embrace the next Books & Boots discussion of "The Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest" slated for September 17. But that is not all that is on the horizon. Housatonic Heritage Walks begin in Norfolk with a hike along the path of the Mountain Express; a Women and Money Roundtable will be offered by the library, and a TED Talk will look at reality. Municipal meetings include the City Meadow Committee regular meeting and the Recreation Committee.
