A Memorial Day Salute to our Veterans

It is that time of year again--the gateway to summer. But first, as has been the tradition since 1868, just after the Civil War, we will pause Monday and reverently recall the valor and sacrifice of those who fought and died to keep America free. Memorial Day will follow a familiar rhythm when the annual parade steps off at 9:00 a.m. from the Town Hall parking lot and marches to the Village Green, where the color guard will fire a salute. The parade then proceeds down Route 44 to Memorial Green, where there will be speeches and another salute. The Region 7 marching band will provide the music. At noon, the Norfolk Fire Department will hold its annual Five-Mile Race under what are predicted to be clear, blue skies. But that is not all that is happening this week. For those who keep on top of municipal affairs, there will be three meetings, the Workplace Health & Safety Committee, the Board of Selectmen and a New Firehouse Project Review. Read on to see what else is on the calendar as gray skies clear up and Norfolk prepares to put on a happy summer face.

Children are invited to bring their favorite stuffed friend for a wellness check up and to enjoy meeting other friends on the library lawn. Removal of Trees Announced

The Town will prune/remove trees between the Town Hall property and the buildings along Station Place and John Curtiss Road over the next 10 days or so. The work is being done in response to a 2020 Town Center Study that determined that more parking is needed in the village center and that individuals should be able see Town Hall from Station Place when told there is parking and an electric vehicle charging station there. Large oaks, maples and beech trees will remain. Any person, firm or corporation objecting to the pruning can appeal in writing to to Norfolk Tree Warden Matt Klimkosky by June 4. He will hold a public hearing at a suitable time and place. Direct correspondence to [email protected].
