It's Baa-ack! WIN is Highlight of Summer 

 Weekend in Norfolk (WIN) starts Friday and the schedule is jam-packed with things to do--literally something for everyone. There will be eclectic concerts in Station Place, chamber music on the Stoeckel Estate, art shows galore, activities for kids, walking tours. outdoor challenges and more. The following is not a complete list so be sure to go to Weekend in Norfolk to ensure you don't miss any opportunities. Life isn't just frolic, however. Municipal work goes on with meetings of the Conservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Finance, Economic Development Commission and Rails to Trails.

"Music for Peace" Concert Friday 

A concert, "Music for Peace," featuring the music of Silvestrov, Schoenberg and Messiaen will be presented Friday, August 5, at 8:00 p.m. in the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival Music Shed. A free pre-concert conversation will be held from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Battell House, 20 Litchfield Road. For information and tickets, click here.

Artists and Friends Show at Art Barn Gallery 

Norfolk Artists & Friends' 15th anniversary Group Art Exhibit, featuring the work of 30 local artists, is underway at the Art Barn Gallery on the Battell Stoeckel Estate. The show is sponsored by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. There will be an opening reception Friday, Aug. 5, 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Exhibit hours are Saturday, Aug. 6, noon to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 7, 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fifteen percent of sales will benefit the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Land Trust Holds Hike the Peaks Challenge  

The Norfolk Land Trust is holding its 2022 Hike the Peaks Challenge during Weekend In Norfolk, August 5 through 7. Hike Dennis Hill, Haystack Mountain, Barbour Woods or Pine Meadow anytime until August 7, take a selfie on top of each peak or in front of the elevation sign, then come to Norfolk Hub during WIN to show the photos and claim a free t-shirt. Emerging Artists Concerts Continue in Music Shed 

Yale School of Music is presenting a series of free concerts each week in the Music Shed on the Stoeckel estate. Performed by extraordinary Norfolk Fellows, the concerts feature a repertoire chosen weekly. The concerts are sponsored in part by the Battell Arts Foundation. Remaining Saturday dates are August 6, 7:30 p.m. and August 13, 7:30 p.m. The last Thursday concert isscheduled for August 11, 7:30 p.m. For more information, click here.

Mindfulness Series Continues in August 

Miranda Lee will continue her Mindfulness series in August, instructing participants in how to live a more mindful life, equipping them with the tools needed to help build resilience against day-to-day  challenges. Some gentle movement (no special clothing or equipment required) is incorporated into the course, which is offered from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Fridays before the library opens to the public. Beginning Tai Chi Chuan Class Offered Saturday

A free Tai Chi Chuan class will be offered Saturday, August 5, 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Battell Chapel. Tai Chi Chuan is a comprehensive holistic fitness system that is grounded in classical Daoist principles of balance, flow and natural alignment, integrating athletic, artistic and spiritual refinement into one singular exercise known as “slowset.” People can take the class for free if it is their first time or can just observe. The class is part of the summer Weekend in Norfolk celebration.

Robinson Mobiles Shown at Library

Brad Robinson returns in August to the Norfolk Library with a display of mobiles titled "Soaring Sculptures." Influenced by the work of Alexander Calder and Asian art, he creates mobiles with a minimum of lines, relying on movement and the viewer’s eye to complete the images. The show is open as part of Weekend in Norfolk Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. An opening reception for the show is set for Sunday, August 7, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Grasmere Works Shown at Guilded Artisan 

Norfolk artist Jean Grasmere will have an art show at the Guilded Artisan Friday, August 5, from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Her work consists of oil paintings, pastels and watercolors of natural life, landscapes, nautical scenes and people. This show emphasizes her recent collages. The Guilded Artisan will also be open Saturday, August 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Sunday, August 7, from noon to 5:00 p.m. The opening reception is Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The show is part of Weekend in Norfolk; for the full calendar, click here.

Tarot Readings at the Healing Nest 

Free three-card Tarot readings will be offered Friday, August 5, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Healing Nest, 3 Station Place. The cards are based on the traditional Italian tarot deck, integrated with Native American culture, wisdom and values. The event, part of Weekend in Norfolk, will also be offered on Saturday and Sunday.

Mudge and Friends to Perform Friday 

Guitarist Grant Mudge, joined by various musician friends, will play an eclectic mix of acoustic classics in Roberston Plaza from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 5. The concert is part of Weekend in Norfolk

Grantville Dawgs To Take the Stage  

The Grantville Dawgs will take center stage in Roberston Plaza August 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  The group (Bob Britton, Tom Calcinari, Grant Mudge, Kristin Mudge and Dale Savage) enjoys playing the rock music that came out in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. The concert is part of Weekend in Norfolk.

Holy Hula Hoops! Come to the Village Green 

As part of the Friday Nights on the Green series, the Norfolk Library offers Bring the Hoopla! Friday, August. 5, at 6:00 p.m.  The program includes hula hoop instruction, age-appropriate games and team-building activities to encourage self-expression and creativity. To register, click here.
