Town Of Monroe Updates - September 27, 2022

Government and Politics

September 28, 2022

From: Town of Monroe

The Town of Monroe has been notified that our application for $500,000 in state funding for the reconstruction of Old Zoar Road has been approved. The grant is provided through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), a state program managed by the Office of Policy and Management. Based upon 2022 the requirements of this program, the Town submitted a 40+ page application for this “shovel-ready” project to provide state funding for the anticipated FY23-24 road improvement plan and lower the local cost of this project. Old Zoar Road is nearly two miles in length and was already identified by our Department of Public Works as needing significant replacement of drainage infrastructure and complete pavement reconstruction.

Pepper Street Project Update

As this project moves forward, the following work is anticipated over the next couple of weeks:

-Continued work to install drainage equipment at the Jockey Hollow Road intersection.

-The first course of pavement will be applied in the area between Commerce Drive and Cambridge Drive.

-At the (northern) Main Street intersection, work will start (mostly off-road) for the new traffic light.

-Continued restoration and backfill of curbing.

-Utility work to raise hydrants.

-Backfilling the westerly end of the new box culvert near Jockey Hollow Road and preparation work in shifting the bypass to allow for final installation of the easterly end of the box culvert.

Motorists should continue to anticipate delays through the construction zone, including occasional alternating, one-lane traffic.

Monroe's Award-Winning Farmer's Market

Congratulations to the Monroe Farmers’ Market for being honored as the #1 Farmers’ Market in Connecticut for the second year in a row by the American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition. Our Market was also ranked fifth nationwide, with over 2,000 markets participating. The Monroe Farmers’ Market is organized and operated by a team of volunteers and with support from various Town departments.  Thank you!
