Town of Hinsdale News : Public Health Alert - Elevated Manganese Detected in the Town’s Water

Government and Politics

December 16, 2022

From: Town of Hinsdale

To Residents on the Hinsdale Water Supply:

I write to inform you that the Town learned today we have an Elevated Level of Manganese in our Water Supply. This was discovered in our most recent testing results. The DPW Superintendent and Water Operator are working with MassDEP's Drinking Water Program Bureau of Water Resources to address this concern.

The Town is required to test our water supply regularly, which we do. The State reviews the testing results of all Public Water Supplies and monitors them for safety purposes. We will update users about efforts to bring the Manganese Level back in line with State standards (meaning below 0.30 mg/L at the entrance point of our distribution system). We are already working on a Corrective Action Plan, which the MassDEP requires we submit by June 15, 2023.

This information is posted on the Town's website at www.hinsdalemass.com, along with a PDF file with additional information, including a Q&A. All users will receive a letter with this same information next week.

The DPW Staff and I appreciate your patience as we address this concern.

Sincerely,

Bob Graves
Town Administrator
