Wanting to explore trails that are off the beaten path? Frisco has you covered with miles of lesser-known, well-marked trails that will be sure to satisfy your adventurous spirit. Know before you go by learning about the area you plan to visit and be prepared for any weather. Although Frisco’s trails are marked, we always recommend being prepared and using maps or free apps like COTREX while out hiking or biking.

EASIER HIKES:

Officer's Gulch Pond

Just 4 miles West on I70 off Exit 198, this 1.1 mile loop is great for a more leisurely hike or for those with younger children wanting to explore the outdoors. This beautiful trail tucked within the Tenmile Canyon follows the perimeter of the pond and is a great place for birding and fishing.

Iron Springs Trail (FS Trail #9040)

A 3 mile out and back trail that parallels the Recreation Path, Iron Springs Trail is perfect for hiking or mountain biking. With wooded sections that open to fields and views of Lake Dillon, this trail is easily accessible from Miner’s Creek Road and can be made longer and more difficult when connected with the Henry Recen Trail (FS Trail #9042).

HIKES FOR THE MORE EXPERIENCED:

Wheeler Lakes Trail

This 6.2 out and back trail leads to a small alpine lake with meadows and stunning views. Accessible from Exit 196 off I70, the trail first parallels the interstate then leads to aspen and lodgepole pine forest. For the more ambitious hiker, continue for 1.8 miles to Lost Lake and then travel 0.8 miles to the summit of Uneva Pass.

Ophir Mountain Trail System

The Ophir Mountain Trail system has over 15 miles of trails to explore, all accessible from Miner’s Creek Road in Frisco. Each trail ranges from easy to difficult for hikers, and intermediate to advanced for mountain bikers. For amazing views of the Tenmile Range and the Gore Range we recommend our staff favorite loop; Take Miner’s Creek Road to the Peaks Trail. Follow the Peaks Trail for roughly 0.7 miles then take the Robert Foote (FS Trail #9047) on the left. Follow this trail for 1.2 miles to the Gifford Pinchot Trail (FS Trail #9155) that veers left. Continue along the Gifford Pinchot Trail for 2 miles then take a left on to the Henry Recen Trail (FS Trail #9042) for 1.3 miles to return to Miner’s Creek Road.

After a day on the trails kick back and quench your thirst in town at one our local breweries or at one of our local coffee shops. Outer Range Brewing Co. and Highside Brewing offer delicious, handcrafted brews that will hit the spot after a day adventuring. Not in the mood for booze? Grab an iced coffee at Abbey’s Coffee, Rocky Mountain Coffee Roasters, or Mountain Dweller Coffee.
